Thames Water Framework Agreement

HBS have undertaken various works on behalf of Thames Water since 2018 as part of a Framework Agreement.  A significant proportion of the Thames Water estate is from the Victorian era and is Grade I listed, requiring the skills of our dedicated team of restoration operatives. We list four of our more significant projects for Thames Water below:

Juniper Hill, Watford, pumping station

  • Liquid roofing
  • Masonry repairs
  • Window repairs
  • Internal & external decorations
  • Scaffold access

Juniper Hill pumping station is an art deco gem, typical of much of Thames Water’s estate.

HBS were engaged to carry out the comprehensive external restoration of the building, including a new liquid roof, window repairs and internal and external decorations.

HBS worked with partners Martech to provide cathodic protection to the building to extend the life of the building’s steel frame.  Cathodic protection is the introduction of a low voltage current to the steel frame, which prevents future corrosion.  Originally devised to protect steel bridges, it is now routinely used to protect buildings’ steel frames.

Staines Raw Water Pump Station

  • Repairs & decorations to windows
  • Repairs to brickwork
  • Repairs to roof
  • New rainwater goods
  • Re-line gutters

HBS undertook the external restoration of this Victorian raw water pumping station in Staines.

The building fabric required considerable repairs and redecorations; although not listed, HBS used its own team of restoration operatives who used techniques and materials as close to the original as possible in order to maintain the building’s integrity.

Lane End Pumping Station, Dartford

  • Liquid roofing
  • Roof structure repairs
  • Tiles roofing and cleaning
  • Masonry repairs
  • Timber window replacement & repairs
  • New rainwater goods
  • External decorations
  • Scaffold access

HBS undertook the external restoration of this period pumping station in Staines.

The roof of this old building required complete renewal; HBS’s restoration team also completed minor repairs to the property’s exterior.

Sundridge Pumping Station, Sevenoaks

  • Lead roofing & flashings
  • Tiled roofing
  • Masonry repairs
  • Glazing repairs
  • New rainwater goods
  • Internal & external decorations
  • Scaffold access

HBS undertook the external restoration of this pumping station in Sevenoaks.

Only minor repairs were necessary, which were carried out by HBS’s directly employed operatives, giving Thames Water a building that would remain in service for many years to come.
