HBS were appointed by Touchstone LLP as main contractors for the exterior refurbishment of St Peters Church in Islington. The church required extensive restoration to the roof and stonework.

The building is of significant architectural interest being designed by Sir Charles Barry. HBS made full use of their 40 years construction experience in assembling a team of tried and trusted sub-contractors to compliment their own workforce. Working alongside these highly skilled operatives from their supply chain, HBS were able to accurately assess the levels of work required. A complete survey of the building fabric was carried out including a test clean of the stonework to establish the most effective cleaning method. The results were analysed and specialist non-abrasive methods were employed using the restoration industry recognised Doff and Jos applications.

The team of specialist craftsmen carried out a complete replacement of the entire roof including Cast Iron above ground drainage and insulation. Defective brickwork joints were raked out and stonework dressings were replaced. The main entrance was further enhanced by the replacement of the existing facade with new bespoke glazed oak framed units.

The benefit of using an experienced contractor such as HBS was that they were able to call upon a network of well established specialists partners from roofing, scaffolding and restoration who have the necessary skills to tackle complex projects of this nature

The restoration took nine months to complete and the HBS team were able to use their specialist experience to produce a solution that resulted in a stunning transformation that was not only very professionally carried out but was also cost effective for the client.
