HBS were appointed by long-standing client Havering Borough Council to improve the SUDs (Sustainable Drainage System) drainage at the RJ Mitchell Primary School in Hornchurch, Essex.

HBS had previously carried out extensive works at the school, constructing new classroom extensions and associated fitting-out works.

This latest work involved designing and installing additional storm drainage attenuation, as the existing soakaway drainage design was insufficient in coping with heavy rainfall. This SUDs installation provides a natural approach to managing drainage in and around the school buildings. It works by slowing and holding back the water that runs off from the site, reducing the risk of flooding. SUDs can also help recharge groundwater, preventing drought and provide valuable habitats for wildlife in urban areas.
