Broadford School, Romford
Broadford Primary School has been designated a Special Measures facility and has undergone significant improvement over a relatively short period.
HBS have worked alongside the new Head Teacher, Malcolm Drakes, in providing refurbishment and additional teaching space. The Early Years Facility extension was constructed by HBS on the existing playground, therefore HBS worked with the school to solve the problem all within a very limited budget. The alternative would have been to employ a playground specialist at a much higher cost. The heavily sloped, derelict and unusable area adjacent to the new building was ripe for development.
HBS developed, engineered and procured the schools blue sky ideas so the pipe dream became a reality. HBS carried out extensive civil engineering and land moving work to prepare the 400m2 canvas for the playground. Then HBS designed and installed a tarmac trike race track, play castle, wood chip play areas, slides, perimeter fencing, decking, musical equipment, astro covered tunnel, sand pits, climbing walls and a range of equipment to help develop their confidence and skills whilst improving their health and fitness.
Many of the children live in areas where there are no facilities to play and this new facility is a very important contribution to their education. The staff and children are overjoyed with the play area but three words from one of the staff really summed up the achievement ”They Deserve It”
