Restoration of Shooters Hill Water Tower for Thames Water
The distinctive gothic revival water tower at the top of Shooter’s Hill is an iconic landmark built in 1910. We’ve recently started external restoration work on the tower as part of our Framework Agreement with Thames Water.
The scheduled 8-week project, which will be weather dependent, has commenced with the installation of a structural scaffold with a HAKI staircase to allow safe access to the 135ft high tower. We have used a 200ft crane to support the 4m high Douglas Fir spire which has been removed as it was completely rotten. Other works include repairing damaged masonry and brick replacement, along with the installation of new high level Perspex windows and minor repairs to the roof.
Project Update: March 2024
The spire has needed to be completely replaced, and over the past 3 months our woodturning and machining specialists have made a complete replica of the original spire. This will be covered in code 7 lead before we return it to site and undertake the complex installation back to the top of the tower.
