Cathedral Hill Industrial Estate Wins Regeneration Project Award

We’re very proud to announce that Cathedral Hill Industrial Estate won the Regeneration Project at the Guildford Design Awards. The Awards are organised by The Guildford Society in partnership with Guildford Borough Council to recognise and reward excellence in architecture, urban design, planning and public art across the borough.

This ambitious £10m redevelopment scheme, which we completed on behalf of our client Savills Investment Management, transformed the existing industrial estate into a state-of-the-art, carbon neutral, Breeam excellent facility.

As Principal Contractor our work included providing all 13 units with enhanced thermal performance with triple-glazed windows, maximum insulation, substantial MEP upgrades, asbestos removal, solar photovoltaic panels to roofs (0.5 MW of power potential) and electric vehicle charging points. The extensive solar panel installation is complemented by a Tesla Powerwall battery installation to each unit. The modernised look and feel of the estate was achieved through a combination of new cladding and raised parapet details to the front elevations.

The success of the project has attracted a range of new high-profile tenants, including Porsche and Topps Tiles, whose tenancy highlights their commitment to reduce their carbon footprint and the impact of their business activities on the environment. Some occupiers are already operating on a 100% renewable power basis with surplus electricity being sent back to the Grid.

The Awards ceremony which was held at the Boatyard Guildford on November 23rd, was attended by the President of the Guildford Society, Robin Countess of Onslow, and the Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Masuk Miah and the Mayoress.

HBS Commercial and Projects director Andrew Pratt commented, “We are thrilled to be part of this redevelopment project which really underscores a commitment to environmental sustainability. The award is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in a project that minimises environmental impact without compromising functionality or aesthetics. Huge congratulations to everyone at Savills!”
