The DOFF Cleaning System: How and Where it Works

The DOFF Cleaning System: How and Where it Works

On our project at The City Quay Apartments in St. Katherine’s Dock, we have been removing unwanted residue from facades and roofs, prior to decoration, with a cleaning system called DOFF. This specialist system is relatively unknown, yet very effective.

Here’s some information on exactly what DOFF is and how it works.

DOFF spraying is a high-pressure steam system that will remove biological growth such as moss, fungi, and algae while killing off all associated spores. This means there’s no requirement for harsh or abrasive chemicals in the surface cleaning process to protect against future biological growth.

DOFF cleans stonework and masonry using high temperature steam. Whilst the temperature in the system is high, the pressure on the surface being cleaned is very gentle and the volume of water is low. The surface is therefore not saturated and will be dry within minutes.

What is DOFF most effective in removing?

  • Paint coatings (most oil and plastic types)
  • Algae, moss, and fungi
  • Bitumen, Oil, Grease and many others
  • Graffiti, bird or vermin fouling
  • Wax coatings Chewing gum

DOFF removes all the above without causing any damage or disfiguring the substrate.

What surfaces should DOFF be used on?

We recommend DOFF spraying for use on surfaces such as;

  • Brickwork
  • Stonework
  • Concrete
  • Render & Self-Coloured Render
  • Faience and Terracotta
  • Wood
  • Tiled (Glazed and Encaustic)
  • Also a useful sterilisation tool for hospitals and factories and swimming pools

Where can I use DOFF?

DOFF can be used in;

  • Building Restoration
  • Industry; Factories & Workshops
  • Transport & Vehicle Depots
  • Hospitals
  • Food production & Hygiene control Areas

How does DOFF work?

A normal water supply is taken through a pump and heated where a range of temperatures of up to 150º C can be achieved. The low volume of super-heated water and steam (5 litres per minute) is then fed through heat resistant hoses to special nozzles where a genuine 150º C is delivered at any height. The surface being cleaned does not suffer any damaging pressure, thermal shock or deep saturation and dries within minutes.
